NPORS Crane Lift Supervisor (N405)

The NPORS Crane Lift Supervisor course is designed for individuals who are required to supervise safe lifting operations on site. It provides candidates with the knowledge and practical understanding needed to plan, organise and oversee lifting activities in line with current legislation, codes of practice and industry standards.
This training is suitable for those with prior experience of lifting equipment who are moving into a supervisory role, ensuring they can confidently manage teams, equipment, and documentation during lifting operations.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the legal requirements and regulations surrounding lifting operations (LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA).

  • Recognise the roles and responsibilities of the lift supervisor and the lifting team.

  • Plan and supervise lifting operations using risk assessments and method statements.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of crane types, capacities, duty charts and ground conditions.

  • Ensure correct use of lifting accessories, slinging techniques and safe load indicators.

  • Conduct toolbox talks, pre-lift briefings and oversee safe communication on site.

Other Information

Do I need prior experience to attend?
Yes. Delegates should have some knowledge or experience of lifting operations before attending this course.

Do I need a CSCS card already?
Not necessarily. Bowtec can apply for either a traditional NPORS card or an NPORS-CSCS card depending on your site requirements.

How long does the certification last?
The NPORS Crane Lift Supervisor card is typically valid for 5 years, after which renewal or refresher training will be required.

Will there be a practical assessment?
Yes. Delegates will be assessed through a combination of practical demonstrations, written tests, and ongoing instructor evaluation.

Can this course be delivered on-site?
Yes, as long as the required lifting equipment, space and conditions are available for practical assessments.
